Kari Jensen Thomas

Manager of Business Development Training and Alumni Engagement


Kari Jensen Thomas leads the firm’s business development training programs, provides individual coaching, and fosters connections between Faegre Baker Daniels and its alumni. She develops and executes the business development curriculum for lawyers and consultants and creates opportunities for colleagues who have moved on from FaegreBD to reconnect with the firm and benefit from its legal expertise and community connections. Kari directs communication initiatives and events to keep alumni in touch and updated on important firm information.

Recruiting & Career and Professional Development Experience

Kari has more than 20 years of experience in legal recruitment, career and professional development, and diversity and inclusion. Before joining FaegreBD, Kari led firmwide attorney and law student talent acquisition strategies, internal and external diversity and inclusion initiatives, and professional development programming and coaching at another large Minneapolis law firm.

Kari also served as associate director for career services at William Mitchell College of Law and as director of marketing and operations for legal staffing company Templeton & Associates. Kari has presented at numerous NALP conferences and has published articles in the area of lawyer professional development, diversity and inclusion, and alumni relations.

Past Experience

Kari has held leadership positions in local bar organizations. She led the efforts to create MNLegalDiversity.org and participated in the development of the Twin Cities Diversity in Practice organization. In 2007-08, Kari served as the first non-practicing president of Minnesota Women Lawyers. A law student scholarship program for female law students was created during her term.

Kari also has a background in the test prep industry, serving as Minnesota director of the Kaplan Educational Centers and as Minnesota assistant director for the West Bar Review.

Personal Interests

When Kari isn’t watching her teenage children or the Golden Gophers play basketball and football, she enjoys mentoring diverse youth, container gardening and traveling.
