Life Sciences Lawyers Publish Article Series in Inside Counsel

Jesse Witten, Robyn Shapiro, and Julie Rusczek authored a series of articles for Inside Counsel on the issues arising from intersection of health care law and technology.

Washington, D.C., partner Jesse Witten’s first article, “Abbott’s $1.6 billion Global Settlement Illustrates Government’s Commitment to Health Care Fraud Enforcement,” discussed the impact of the settlement and its vivid illustration of “the government’s intention to crack down on health care fraud.” His second article, “Medical Device Companies May See Increased Regulation,” focused on international trade association codes of conduct and their requirements.

Milwaukee partner Robyn Shapiro discussed “Anticipating the Sunshine Act” and how many U.S. drug and medical device manufacturers have focused sharply on tracking and analyzing their payments to physicians and teaching hospitals as a result. Robyn’s second article, on “The Ethical and Legal Challenges of Large-Scale Human Genome Sequencing,” emphasized that unless legal protections keep pace with evolving technologies, “public confidence in the promise of genomics to improve health will be at risk.”

Milwaukee associate Julie Rusczek wrote an article titled, “7 Significant Changes Under the Impending PHS Conflict of Interest Rule.Julie discussed the operational issues and broader details surrounding compliance with the new Public Health Service rule. Julie’s second article focused on the “Uncertainty Surrounding Privacy and Consent Issues for Biospecimens.”
