Laramore, Glawe Selected Winners of Leadership in Law Awards

Jon B. Laramore and Caryn M. Glawe, both of Baker & Daniels LLP, were named recipients of Leadership in Law Awards by Indiana Lawyer for contributions in their profession and community.

Laramore, the lead partner in the firm's appellate practice, received a Distinguished Barrister Award. The award honors lawyers whose leadership — both in the profession and in their community activities — has been exemplary and had significant impact over the course of their careers.

Glawe, an associate in Baker & Daniels insurance and financial services practice, was given an Up and Coming Lawyer Award. The award honors those who are early in their legal careers but have already demonstrated leadership and a talent for making an impact.

"The staff at Indiana Lawyer considers it a privilege to cover the legal community in our state and write about the many individuals connected with the profession," Rebecca Collier, editor and publisher of Indiana Lawyer, wrote in announcing the 2009 award winners. "Our Leadership in Law awards were created to cast a spotlight on the kinds of folks that people look up to both inside and outside the profession."

Laramore is considered to be one of the most experienced appellate practitioners in Indiana, the publication reported in its special section announcing the award recipients. It also reported that Laramore was instrumental in creating a civil pro bono program for the state's appellate courts in 2006 that has since aided more than two dozen litigants. He served eights years in various capacities for the Indiana Attorney General's Office before joining Baker & Daniels and currently is board president for Horizon House, a homeless day center in Indianapolis. Laramore also has been on the Damien Center Board of Directors.

When the Indiana State Bar Association's offices were closed because of severe storm damage in 2006, Glawe led the effort to find another practice location for Indiana's state championship team of "We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution," Indiana Lawyer reported. She remains an active volunteer with the program, serving as a judge for competitions, working with high school teams and helping students prepare for competition with a daylong dress rehearsal. Glawe also has worked with the Holocaust Survivors Justice Network, helping survivors complete paperwork to receive reparation from the German government.

Leadership in Law Award recipients will be honored May 5 at a reception in downtown Indianapolis. Indiana Lawyer will present winners with mementos acknowledging their contributions.
