Associate Joins City of Westfield as Community Development Director

Associate Matthew S. Skelton, who currently practices in Baker & Daniels' real estate group, is joining the City of Westfield as Community Development Director.

Skelton's experience as an urban planner, attorney and Westfield resident made him ideally suited for this opportunity. His legal practice has focused on zoning, land use planning, real estate and government services. Skelton has utilized his legal experience to benefit the Westfield community through a number of pro bono projects.

"We are very sad to see Matt go but recognize that this is a great opportunity for him," said Baker & Daniels real estate practice chair Joe Scimia. "He is an asset to the Westfield community, and his new role will allow him to continue to serve the community he loves. We wish him all the best."

Skelton received his bachelor's degree in urban management and policy and his master's degree in urban development planning from Indiana University. He held the position of Senior Planner with the City of Westfield from 1994 through 2002 and has more than 17 years of work experience in land use and urban planning. He is filling the position vacated by Gregory J. Anderson, who resigned in early 2009.

"It's obvious that Matt will be a huge asset to our team," said Mayor Andy Cook. "His experience, commitment and dedication to the Westfield community is remarkable, and we are thrilled with his return to our city government."

"I am excited about this opportunity but am also going to miss working with my clients and colleagues at Baker & Daniels," said Skelton. "However, I know that I will continue to have strong relationships with the attorneys at the firm and look forward to working with them on the other side of the table."
