Insurer Advocates for Improved Workers' Comp Settlement Review Process

A regional commercial property and casualty insurer required advocacy and representation efforts for approximately 10 years of federal legislation under consideration by Congress. The legislation would streamline the process by which the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) reviews workers’ compensation settlements to ensure their future interests are protected, including through the participation in a coalition.

Our firm represented the insurer before the Congressional Budget Office to discuss how the office would determine the proposal's cost. Our firm also represented the company before CMS, and across Capitol Hill, to discuss their thoughts on the proposed changes to the process. Our firm secured lead Democrat sponsors in the House and the Senate for legislation and secured opportunities for the client to provide a Capitol Hill briefing to committee staffers.
