Lionel Weaver navigates clients through the complexities of harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) and automated decision-making in a rapidly evolving legal and regulatory environment. As part of the firm's interdisciplinary artificial intelligence, algorithmic decision-making and big data (AI-X) team, Lionel helps clients develop bespoke AI governance and risk management programs to foster the responsible use of emerging AI technologies, counsels on the laws and regulations implicated when using AI and algorithms, and advises on tailored commercial contracting solutions to mitigate the risks associated with using AI.  Lionel also works closely with Faegre Drinker’s data scientists to offer clients a unique law firm service that tests AI models for potential algorithmic discriminations.  Lionel has significant experience in other technology-driven areas, including information governance, data privacy and cybersecurity, and has built effective and practical compliance programs in these areas.

As a former in-house corporate attorney, Lionel brings a thoughtful approach to client services that is commercially centric and pragmatic. He is regularly called upon to bridge the gap between business and technology leaders while providing business-savvy guidance on a range of complex matters.
