Eleni Michaela supports clients on a broad range of complex restructuring and insolvency matters, acting for stakeholders across the capital structure, including corporates, creditors, investors and sponsors. Eleni has experience working on complex, cross-border matters across a variety of sectors and jurisdictions, delivering efficient, creative, commercial and client-focused solutions. Known for a proactive and collaborative approach, Eleni plays a key role in driving matters forward.

Representative Experience

Eleni has represented:

  • The secured lender on the restructuring and new-money financing of a large residential real estate portfolio across multiples cities in Germany.
  • The ad hoc group of lenders in relation to the corporate and financial restructuring of the Cineworld UK group of companies, which involved the chapter 11 proceedings for the UK PLC holding company and certain UK and Jersey tenant company subsidiaries, the administration of the UK PLC holding company, as well as the consensual renegotiation of the UK real estate portfolio.
  • Essar Oil (UK) Limited in relation to its contingency planning, stakeholder management and restructuring.
  • A Korean distressed debt fund on the acquisition of the senior debt in respect of a landmark property in the city of London and its subsequent restructuring.
  • The U.S. court-appointed receiver in Re Smerling Litigation (Southern District of New York), a receivership relating to the misappropriation of over $136 million from two financial institutions.
  • A co-working and serviced-office provider in relation to out-of-court administration appointments and restructurings of its English tenant companies.

Prior Experience

Before joining Faegre Drinker, Eleni completed her training contract at a major international law firm.

Pro Bono

  • Succesfully appealed several Personal Independence Payment (PIP) decisions on behalf of clients whose PIP was unfairly taken away.
  • Helped to create, and provided ongoing legal support to, Girls Are Investors (GAIN), a company aimed at increasing the number of female employees in investment banks, and YouBeYou, a company aimed at breaking down gender stereotypes in young children.
