Trial Advocacy

At his core, Justin is a trial lawyer. He has tried cases to verdict in jury and bench trials, as well as arbitrations, and he is often called upon — sometimes on short notice — to join trial teams as they prepare for court. Justin recently served on back-to-back trial teams, including a multiweek jury trial for a global technology company that immediately followed a multiweek, multi-plaintiff employment discrimination trial in New Jersey state court that resulted in a complete defense verdict. He has also represented plaintiffs, including in a three-week bench trial in a New Jersey real estate dispute that secured for clients compensatory and treble damages and attorneys' fees.

Justin's trial experience spans state and federal courts, where he has argued pre- and post-trial motions. He is known for his thorough, detail-oriented approach to discovery and case preparation. Nevertheless, he regularly counsels clients through pre-litigation strategy, motion practice, and settlement negotiations aimed at avoiding the cost and uncertainty of trial.

Financial Services Litigation

As a member of the firm's financial services industry team, Justin represents brokerage firms, banks, and individual registered representatives in FINRA arbitrations, SEC matters and investigations, and broker-dealer disputes, as well as related regulatory and civil proceedings. He defends claims alleging sales practice violations such as fraud, breach of contract, misrepresentation, unsuitability, and failure to supervise, and he regularly assists clients responding to regulatory inquiries and examinations.

Justin has tried both offensive and defensive FINRA arbitrations on behalf of brokerage firms, for which he has secured full compensatory damages and attorneys' fees. He has also successfully defended one of the largest independent broker-dealers in the United States in multiday, in-person FINRA arbitrations involving allegations of misrepresentation, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and failure to supervise. In addition, he has secured dismissal of multimillion-dollar claims in court brought against one of the country's largest brokerage firms by developing novel, first-impression legal arguments tailored to an evolving legal landscape.

Fiduciary Litigation

Justin has built a multidisciplinary fiduciary litigation practice representing trusts, estates, financial institutions, and individuals in disputes over the duties owed by trustees, executors, and other fiduciaries. He regularly appears before the New York Surrogate's Court and the New Jersey Chancery Court in matters involving breach of fiduciary duty and removal claims, will and trust contests, contested accountings, and the interpretation of testamentary instruments.

Justin has developed a particular focus defending financial institutions against allegations of negligence, fraud, and breach of fiduciary duty arising out of estate-related proceedings, and he has secured multimillion-dollar recoveries and favorable resolutions for fiduciaries and beneficiaries alike, often through negotiated settlement or mediation rather than protracted litigation.

Broader Litigation Practice

Beyond these focus areas, Justin maintains a diverse commercial litigation practice, handling business tort and contract disputes; product liability defense (including matters involving industrial and consumer products); construction and real estate litigation; and disputes on behalf of landlords, developers, and commercial tenants.

His employment practice spans federal and state discrimination defense, as well as wage and hour claims and restrictive covenant disputes, including noncompete and nonsolicitation matters.

Justin's white collar practice has grown alongside his financial services and fiduciary work: he defends individuals in criminal investigations, represents them in SEC investigations, and coordinates directly with the US government on behalf of clients navigating regulatory and criminal inquiries.

Prior Experience

Justin clerked for the Honorable Lisa F. Chrystal of the Superior Court of New Jersey immediately following law school. While in law school, he served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Susan D. Wigenton of the US District Court for the District of New Jersey and as an extern to Justice Barry T. Albin of the New Jersey Supreme Court, and he sharpened his advocacy skills through Seton Hall Law's Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Board and its Impact Litigation Clinic, through which he negotiated a favorable settlement for an indigent client before the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Prior to law school, Justin served with Teach For America, teaching inner-city middle-school students in St. Louis, Missouri. He is also an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.
