Overview

Martin Demoret is a litigator and legal strategist who works closely with clients in the food, agribusiness, insurance and other industries to develop and execute plans for resolving clients’ disputes and furthering their legal and business goals. He has won motions to dismiss and motions for summary judgment, defended class actions and major MDLs, represented clients at trial, and reversed losses and defended victories on appeal.

Agribusiness Litigation

Martin focuses on litigation for agribusiness companies. He has represented producers of seed and pesticides in complex product liability and consumer fraud class actions pending in multiple jurisdictions and in multidistrict litigation. Martin has successfully represented clients on the plaintiff and defense side in commercial disputes, trade secret litigation, noncompete cases, dealer disputes and other matters. Martin is also a member of the firm’s agribusiness litigation team.

Food Company Litigation

Martin represents food company clients in consumer class actions, claims brought by nonprofit organizations, commercial disputes and other matters. His clients have won motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, defeated class certification and representative actions, and negotiated favorable class and individual settlements. Martin is also a member of the firm’s food team.

Complex Disputes

Martin helps clients further their business and legal interests through proactive counseling and litigation. He has assisted clients in protecting their valuable trade secrets, coordinating complex litigation strategy across multiple states, managing complex discovery issues, and resolving novel challenges that significantly affect clients’ business and legal interests. Martin enjoys working collaboratively with the client team to find and develop weakness in the opposition’s case, and executing strategy to achieve the client’s goal in a cost-effective manner.

Appellate Advocacy

Martin has represented clients in numerous appeals in state and federal court. He has successfully defended favorable rulings on appeal and won reversals of unfavorable ones, including winning reversals of adverse jury verdicts. Martin also has a robust appellate practice that includes representing clients and advocacy groups in high impact asylum cases. Martin is a member of the firm’s appellate advocacy group.

Prior Experience

Before joining Faegre Drinker, Martin gained litigation experience through a clerkship for Judge C. Arlen Beam in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. During law school, he served as a judicial extern for Chief Judge William J. Riley of the Eighth Circuit.

Prior to law school, Martin worked in a psychiatric hospital, where he facilitated educational programming and led crisis response teams for patients.

Personal Interests

Martin enjoys spending time with his wife and four children. He is an active member of his faith community, as well as an avid reader.
