Overview
Eric Au helps insurance and financial services clients resolve disputes and other issues that threaten their businesses or stand in the way of strategic initiatives and growth. His practice focuses on complex insurance litigation and high-stakes matters confronting life and disability insurers — including annuity issuers. Eric brings extensive litigation experience and a business-minded perspective shaped by his secondment with a Fortune 50 company. That deep background gives him a practical understanding of the business and operational considerations underlying insurance disputes and operations which he draws on to develop effective litigation and resolution strategies.
Life and Disability Insurance
Eric assists life and disability insurers with regulatory compliance, product development, policy and claims administration, fraud detection and investigation, sales practice issues, premium rate setting and increases, and contracting with third-party administrators. In litigation, Eric represents life and disability carriers nationwide in lawsuits involving cost of insurance issues, sales practices, suitability, material misrepresentation and rescission, lapse, insurable interest, fraud, and premium financing issues.
Fraud
Eric counsels clients on fraud prevention strategies and represents clients in fraud-related litigation. Eric has assisted his clients in recovering millions of dollars taken through fraud. He is particularly knowledgeable on detecting and prosecuting life insurance fraud on accelerated issue and simplified issue life insurance policies.
Insolvency and Receivership
Eric's practice also focuses on insurer insolvencies and the guaranty association system. He has served as task force counsel for the National Organization of Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Associations (NOLHGA) on various multistate insolvencies.
Personal Interests
Eric is an avid Philadelphia sports fan and he enjoys playing soccer, tennis, and golf.
