Mollie Sitkowski Discusses Tariff Impacts on Pharmaceutical Industry With CNN

Customs and international trade partner Mollie Sitkowski spoke with CNN to discuss how tariffs on certain drugs and ingredients could impact the United States’ pharmaceutical industry.

The article noted that although President Donald Trump’s order to levy 100% tariffs on certain patented pharmaceutical products and ingredients takes effect Sept. 29, its intended goal of spurring drug development in the U.S. could backfire, as many American drug manufacturers are unable to meet market demands.

Sitkowski added that patients suffering from conditions not treated by major pharmaceutical manufacturers could feel the biggest impact because they often depend on medications made by smaller companies. She said prices of those medicines will likely rise and fewer new drugs will be released due to the tariffs.
