Sari Long Discusses Indiana’s FAIRNESS Act in The Indiana Lawyer

In an article for The Indiana Lawyer, labor and employment partner Sari Long offered insight into Indiana’s FAIRNESS Act, which established new requirements for Indiana employers and government entities relating to federal immigration law enforcement.

Long explained that the act does not impose any new burdens on employers that weren’t already required by federal law, but reflects an increased emphasis on immigration enforcement and has prompted employers to pay closer attention to compliance obligations.

Long also observed a heightened interest among businesses in complying with federal I-9 forms, which employers must complete to verify the identity and employment eligibility of every employee. “We’re getting a lot of requests to assist with internal I 9 audits,” Long said.
