Norman Pentelovitch Discusses Strategic Client Counseling in Corporate Counsel Q&A Feature

In a Q&A feature with Corporate Counsel, litigation partner Norman Pentelovitch reflected on his career path, his experience as in-house counsel, and his approach to advising clients on risk management and business strategy.

Pentelovitch shared that his experience as in-house counsel broadened his perspective on clients' priorities and how individual legal matters fit into larger strategic goals.

Drawing on that perspective, Pentelovitch emphasized the importance of helping clients anticipate future challenges and make informed decisions before problems arise. "It's not enough, as a strategic counselor, to address the problem presented to you," he explained. "You need to take your experience, knowledge, and curiosity and help your clients look ahead."

When asked how he translates complex legal issues into practical business decisions, Pentelovitch said, "The most important thing is to understand what decisions business leaders need to make and what your client is trying to accomplish." He added, "Your legal analysis needs to be thorough, correct, and presented efficiently. You integrate that analysis with what you understand to be the client’s strategic priorities, and you give advice."
