Government and regulatory partner Angela Fogt and private client associate Nicole Flaherty Cropper authored chapters in the third edition of Minnesota CLE’s Minnesota Nonprofit Deskbook.
Fogt authored chapter six, “Private Foundations and Donor Advised Funds,” covering the history, classification, and taxation of private foundations, as well as the use of intermediaries and termination and reclassification considerations. The chapter also examines donor-advised fund definitions, prohibited distributions, and investment practices.
Cropper authored chapter thirteen, “Charitable Contributions,” addressing charitable contribution deductions and percentage limitations, substantiation and recordkeeping requirements, disclosure obligations, and Minnesota law considerations. The chapter also explores charitable giving vehicles, including charitable remainder trusts, pooled income funds, and charitable gift annuities, as well as issues involving charitable pledges, clawbacks, and donor capacity.
