Andrew Murphy Advises SHRM on Wage and Hour Laws for Exempt Employees

Labor & Employment partner Andrew Murphy provided insight in an article from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) about how businesses must continue to adhere to federal and state wage and hour laws as they attempt to reduce business costs in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Employers would do well to remember that, even if business is slow and employees have less work to do, salaried employees still need to be paid their full salary in any workweek in which they perform work," Murphy said. He also acknowledged avenues which allow salary reductions and advised that employers should seek to link reductions to long-term business needs.
