Andrew Campbell Explains Indy Bar Association's Low Asset Wills Program

Applications for the Indianapolis Bar Association's Low Asset Wills Program are being accepted through March 31, 2011, Andrew Campbell of Baker & Daniels told WTHR's Angela Cain during the television station's "Focus on the Community" feature.

"The service connects low asset individuals with private attorneys who can draft a will," said Campbell, chair of the IBA's pro bono committee in 2011. In addition to wills, the program offers drafting appointments of heath care representatives, powers of attorney and other necessary end-of-life documents.

Applications are available online at www.indybar.org or by calling 317.269.2000, Campbell explained to viewers. Qualification is based on guidelines including federal poverty guidelines, liquid assets and equity in a home.

"If you don't qualify for that specific program, we have a lawyer referral service which can refer you to a private attorney," Campbell said. "The referral is free, and that attorney will negotiate a rate with you."

Campbell explained several other IBA programs, including:

  • Legal Line on the second Tuesday of every month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The phone-in, ask-and-advice program allows individuals to talk to a lawyer free of charge at 317.269.2000 on any type of legal issue, including landlord-tenant disputes, law suits and collection issues. The next program is February 8, 2011.
  • Bankruptcy Legal Help Line on the fourth Wednesday of each month from noon to 1 p.m. at 269-1910.
  • Ask-A-Lawyer Program where individuals can visit with an attorney in-person at Marion County Public Libraries. The next program is April 12 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Indianapolis Bar Association is a collection of attorneys in Indianapolis and the surrounding areas whose mission is to provide resources to attorneys and the public at-large, Campbell explained.
