Overview

Chicago partner James Sawyer was part of a panel at the 2017 National Summit of Black Women Lawyers titled, “The New Nationalism: Legal Practice and Social Advocacy in the Post-Brexit and Post-Trump Era.”

The discussion focused on how Brexit and the new Trump trade agenda has impacted financial markets, international legislation and legal practice. James’ remarks concentrated on Brexit’s impact on international trade, as well as the anticipated impact of the new Trump Administration’s trade agenda on U.S. import and export activities, including the administration’s decision to terminate the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and proposals to revise the North American Free Trade Agreement, support antidumping and countervailing duty petitions, and impose a border tax adjustment.
