Leadership in Law Awards Honor Murray Clark, Sarah Jenkins and Drew McCoy

Indiana Lawyer has named Murray Clark, Sarah Jenkins and Drew McCoy of Faegre Baker Daniels winners of 2016 Leadership in Law Awards for their outstanding legal work and community contributions.

Indianapolis office leader and partner Murray Clark was named a Distinguished Barrister, an honor for lawyers who have practiced a minimum of 20 years. Indianapolis-based partner Sarah Jenkins and associate Drew McCoy received the Up and Coming Lawyer designation, intended for outstanding attorneys who have been practicing for 10 years or less.

Clark was recognized not only for his successful real estate and governmental affairs practice—representing clients on matters involving alcoholic beverage law, fire code regulations and zoning issues—but also for his dedication to the Indianapolis community. In an interview with Indiana Lawyer, Clark said of Indianapolis, “We have a small-city mentality that greatly values good-faith collaboration between the private, public, nonprofit sectors, and historically between people of different political and ideological beliefs. Indianapolis is an extraordinarily welcoming community full of hard-working, common-sense solution seekers.”

A profile of Jenkins—who was recognized for her probate litigation expertise—noted her many significant victories for clients including a probate case she won before the Indiana Supreme Court that turned on the statutory definition of “claim.” The publication also highlighted Jenkins’ dedication to pro bono service, and her more than 700 pro bono hours working on a case involving a man with a mental health disability whose home was bulldozed without his consent or court approval. “For me, serving others is a reward in and of itself. I have been very blessed, and my pro bono work is a way that I consciously practice gratitude by giving back,” Jenkins said.

McCoy was recognized by Indiana Lawyer  for being influential in identifying a unique argument in a 10-year patent infringement case, which led to a summary judgment of non-infringement in favor of the client. He was also instrumental in the development of a new pharmaceuticals/biologics subgroup within the firm’s health and life sciences industry team. McCoy told Indiana Lawyer, “I have always been interested in this area of the law and we have a great team of attorneys and professionals who offer world-class service in this industry.”

Winners were honored in a special supplement to Indiana Lawyer on May 4 and at a celebratory reception.
