U.S. Retailer Successfully Negotiates Employee Layoffs in China

Asia | Asia - China

A top 10 U.S. retailer successfully implemented a plan to eliminate more than 80 positions across six offices in six different cities in China. Our firm represented the retailer in the matter, working with the client to formulate a plan for mutually agreed-upon layoffs.

The plan necessitated meeting individually with each affected employee and persuading the employee to sign a mutual termination agreement within two days. Our attorneys formulated appropriate individualized compensation packages, planned logistics, developed a security plan and procured resources for it, handled all necessary documentation, provided training to human resources managers responsible for termination negotiations, coordinated courtesy meetings with local labor officials and provided on-site assistance on notification day.

All but six affected employees agreed to the termination plan on notification day, and all eventually accepted the terms of the deal.
