Overview
Devin Stein helps clients obtain intellectual property assets and navigate litigation, including the assertion of and defense against intellectual property claims.
Prior Experience
Prior to his role as an associate, Devin was a patent agent with the firm for several years, including while he attended law school. He has drafted and prosecuted utility patent applications for a wide array of software inventions, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, visual and audio processing, database systems, social media applications, cloud computing, and wireless communications. Devin also has extensive experience protecting mechanical inventions in sectors such as automotive, medical technology and consumer products. He has assisted clients in expanding their domestic and international patent portfolios, prepared freedom-to-operate analyses, led inventor and examiner interviews, and conducted patent appeals before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
Devin has supported intellectual property litigation teams with fact investigations and the drafting of claim charts, invalidity positions, mediation statements and correspondence to opposing counsel. He has also assisted with patent due diligence for mergers and acquisition transactions. Devin’s prior engineering experience includes designing custom medical and automotive equipment, developing large vehicle assemblies, and running analyses to optimize product quality and production in manufacturing plants.
Personal Interests
Devin enjoys running, swimming and biking. He is a half-Ironman finisher and has completed the Chicago marathon. Devin is also an aviator, with FAA certifications as a private pilot and commercial drone pilot.
