Private client attorneys Lisa Presser and Brian Balduzzi co-authored an article titled “Qualified Charitable Distributions Might Be Donors’ and Charities’ Quality Giving Vehicle” for the New Jersey Law Journal.
The co-authors noted that an often-underappreciated strategy for charitable giving is a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). A QCD is a distribution made from an individual’s traditional or Roth IRA directly to a public charity. While certain requirements must be met prior to making a QCD, Presser and Balduzzi said there are several tax benefits to be secured by making such a distribution.
“By actively reviewing the changes in the income tax rules and helping to discuss charitable giving with clients, clients and their advisers can adapt proactively for increased tax savings and additional charitable impact,” the authors noted.
