New Year, Same You? Scheduling an Estate Planning Physical May Be the Appointment You Have Delayed for Too Long

The Legal Intelligencer

In an article for The Legal Intelligencer, private client partner Lisa Presser and associate Brian Balduzzi emphasize the importance of annual check-ins with your estate planning attorney, likening it to an annual check-up with your doctor.

While many attorneys send a “three-year letter” reminding clients that it’s time to review their estate planning documents, the authors suggest that more frequent, informal check-ins may be beneficial.

“Strategizing with the multitude of options for lifetime or testamentary dispositions, either outright or in trust, may help ensure that your wishes are effectively and efficiently followed and minimize the risk of conflict, delay, and waste,” the authors conclude. “Because the law and our lives change regularly, like our bodies, a regular estate planning physical may be essential for giving you and your loved ones the confidence of talking with a specialist and ensuring your fitness for the future.”
