Ben Blair Discusses Indiana Property Tax Appeals Process With WAVE3
Construction and real estate litigation partner Ben Blair joined WAVE3 to provide insights on Indiana’s property tax appeals process.
The article discussed a recent example from Clark County, where a homeowner appealed her increased assessment, resulting in a state-ordered interior inspection of her home. Blair noted that in his experience, assessors using their in-home inspection powers is rare, and most opt to do “drive-by” assessments to get the full picture.
“This is the taxpayers’ attempt to get a reduction in their assessment, and part of being involved in that appeal process is that you have to comply with discovery and let an assessor or their employee in the property,” Blair said. “I agree with taxpayers who feel like this is a system set up to make challenges difficult.”
