Sandra Jones Discusses Structured Settlements With Wall Street Journal Buy Side

Insurance partner Sandra Jones spoke to the Wall Street Journal Buy Side about structured settlements, which allow plaintiffs to provide regular payments over a period of time following the settlement of a lawsuit. 

Structured settlements can take many forms, Jones explained, and can be tailored to a plaintiff’s needs. For example, Jones noted that plaintiffs who need to replace their monthly income might receive a settlement that pays out each month for a specified period, with payments set up to increase over time with the cost of living. Jones added that she’s seen structured settlements pay out as one lump sum later, so the recipient can receive a larger amount than if they’d taken a lump sum right away.

“Structured settlements are really helpful tools to financially assist those who have been injured or lost someone close to them, and make sure they have income that they otherwise might have lost,” Jones concluded.
