Erica MacDonald Comments on New Chief Federal Judge Patrick Schiltz With Star Tribune

In an article by Star Tribune, business litigation partner Erica MacDonald discussed how Minnesota Federal Judge Patrick Schiltz became the District of Minnesota’s 11th chief judge on July 1, 2022.

According to the publication, MacDonald, a former U.S. attorney, said she first formed an impression of a then-new Judge Schiltz as he shadowed former Chief Judge James Rosenbaum during an arson trial that she helped prosecute.

“I was extremely impressed by the calm demeanor and quizzical nature and approach to the conversations we were having,” MacDonald said. “He was calm in a way that a judge should be calm but also engaged with a firm hand.” MacDonald added that she and Schiltz found common ground over their shared connections to the University of Notre Dame and described his dry, quick wit as one “that translates to the bench and how you run an organization.”
