ThinkAdvisor Shares Takeaways From Sandy Jones on Long-Term Care Insurance

In “COVID-19 and Long-Term Care Insurance Operations,” ThinkAdvisor summarized insights from insurance partner Sandy Jones on the legal concerns surrounding long-term care insurance (LTCI).

One concern noted by Jones was the result of the pandemic-related shift of LTCI insurers working at home and their access to medical records. The pandemic has also caused delays in receiving records. “Insurers are denying some LTCI claims because of delays in getting doctors’ records,” Jones said. She also explained that an issuer may reopen a claim, if appropriate.

Additional concerns include the need to rely on video recordings rather than face-to-face meetings, as well as policies that only pertain to facility-based care rather than home health care. Jones stated that a burden had been placed on insured individuals to prove why insurers should be paying for home health care.
