Telehealth and the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency: Lessons Learned, Opportunities Realized and a Glimpse at Things to Come

Health care partner Jennifer Breuer authored an article for the American Health Law Association exploring how the public health emergency (PHE) impacted existing telehealth providers and provided an opportunity for the expansion of telehealth in new settings during the pandemic.

Notwithstanding the PHE-related waivers and flexibility, Breuer further discusses how regulators continue to monitor and enforce telehealth requirements. She also addresses the evolution of telehealth from the perspective of an established digital health provider, including increased utilization in behavioral health.

Next, Breuer highlights health equity and the expansion of telehealth, featuring a nursing home case study. Lastly, she explains what telehealth providers need to be aware of regarding regulatory requirements, such as documentation, and increased compliance enforcement efforts.
