AIS Health Summarizes a Faegre Drinker Report Analyzing 2021 Medicare Advantage Benefits

AIS Health provided an overview of a report written by Faegre Drinker Consulting Principal Mike Adelberg, Associate Aaron Dobosenski and Advisor Vincent Giglierano in its RADAR on Medicare Advantage publication. In the report, the authors reviewed two sets of “flexible benefits” based on data released after the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS’s) initial round of “landscape” files in September.

In “2021 Flex Benefits Show COVID Influence, Insurer Comfort,” the publication described how the authors found that the availability of Supplemental Benefits for the Chronically Ill (SBCIs) more than tripled in 2021. They discussed possible reasons why and shared the most common offerings.

The authors also addressed the pandemic’s influence on benefit design, the landscape of condition-specific benefits and how some categories may overlap. AIS Health suggested that carriers are becoming more comfortable with a variety of new supplemental benefits and the idea of incorporating cost offsets into their bids.
