Libby Baney Addresses Affect of Supply Issues on Online Medicine Purchases With Pharma Technology Focus

In “The dark consequences of supply shortages,” Pharma Technology Focus spoke to government and regulatory affairs partner Libby Baney, who is also senior advisor to the Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies (ASOP Global), about the impact of illegal online pharmacies on legitimate businesses and patients seeking medications.

Baney said, “Health care is not like buying shoes and purses on the internet. Your life is at stake, and it’s regulated for a reason. There are some really great, reputable online pharmacies and telemedicine companies that will provide you with legitimate, approved drugs. The challenge is knowing which is which.”

Regarding illegitimate online pharmacies, Baney added, “It creates an unlevel playing field when unregulated, unlicensed, illegal online drug sellers are allowed to peddle cures and treatments that are not regulated.”
