White House Targets Drug Pricing, Importation Through Executive Action

Partner Libby Baney and director Matthew Rubin co-authored an article for The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy titled “White House Targets Drug Pricing, Importation Through Executive Action,” regarding a series of executive orders focusing on longstanding priorities intended to drive prescription drug costs down.

The orders outline four key priority areas, including increasing drug importation from foreign countries; eliminating kickbacks to pharmacy benefits managers; improved access and affordability of insulin and epinephrine; and reducing the costs associated with prescription drugs dispensed under the Medicare Part B program.

The latest of these orders focuses on combating the trafficking of counterfeit products via online search and social platforms and third-party sellers. Recognizing the scope of this order, Baney and Rubin encourage regulators, patients and the industry to be extra vigilant against the risks of substandard, falsified, counterfeit and diverted medicines and devices, and other products entering the U.S. drug supply.
