Jason G. Weiss Discusses Surge of Disruptionware Attacks

Among the more malicious and potentially dangerous cyber incidents affecting healthcare, energy and other sectors are "disruptionware" attacks that aim to shut down businesses. HealthcareInfoSecurity turned to privacy, cybersecurity and data strategy counsel Jason G. Weiss for a video interview on the phenomenon.

In the interview, Weiss discusses the ways disruptionware attacks are evolving, what groups may be behind them, how COVID-19 is influencing them and proactive steps for organizations to take to "harden" their networks against them.

"What I've seen is a tremendous growth in the attacks matrix against hospitals and government institutions in particular, and recently there's been a spread of disruptionware attacking the energy industry," Weiss said.
