Laboring Under New Laws
By Mark Terman
Los Angeles partner Mark Terman published an article in California CPA titled, “Laboring Under New Laws.” The article discussed new California laws that went into effect January 1, 2017, and what employers need to know.
Some of the new laws Mark covers include: raising the minimum wage to $10.50 per hour for employers with 26 or more employees; expanding the requirements of the Fair Pay Act to also include employees’ race and ethnicity, in addition to gender; and placing more restriction on criminal history inquiries pertaining to job applicants.
Mark advises employers to consider how these new laws impact their workplace, review and update their personnel policies and work with experienced attorneys or human resource professionals to ensure compliance.
