Sarah Brew in Law360 on Preparing in Advance for a Successful Recall

Long before a recall is needed, companies should take key steps to ensure any future recalls will be effective, Law360 reported.

"In the past, companies would say, 'We've never had a recall, it's not something we'd ever really need to worry about,'" said Sarah Brew of Faegre Baker Daniels. "But for every company that's had a recall, there's been a first time."

In addition to having a recall plan, companies should review plans periodically to make sure they're up-to-date with changing regulatory requirements and should conduct mock recalls, Brew told Law360.

"The best way for a company to figure out what might be missing from its plan is to do a comprehensive and challenging mock recall," she said.
