Power to the Shareholder? Melanie Wadsworth Talks About News Corp Settlement in Commercial Dispute Resolution Magazine

After multiple phone hacking scandals and accusations of overpayment to relatives of Rupert Murdoch, American pension management groups and several News Corporation shareholders have recently filed a derivative suit against Murdoch's media conglomerate. The shareholders will obtain no financial payment in the derivative suit, but they have secured guarantees from News Corp directors that it will both restructure and reinforce corporate governance.

Melanie Wadsworth, partner at Faegre Baker Daniels, told Commercial Dispute Resolution magazine that the deal reached in the settlement "is an acknowledgement that things could have been run better and that there needs to be more independent and objective oversight."
