100 Years Later, Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid Continues to Help Those in Need

Since its foundation in 1913 by attorney John Benson, who later went on to establish what is now Faegre Baker Daniels, Legal Aid has assisted the most vulnerable citizens in central Minnesota to gain access to the court system. A recent Star Tribune article highlighting the history of the nonprofit explained how private attorneys have been essential in aiding the mission through pro bono services and monetary donations.

The fundraising arm for Legal Aid, founded in 1980 to reach private lawyers, raises $1.1 million a year for the organization. Private lawyers also volunteer time on a pro bono basis in the Hennepin County Housing Court as well as other programs aimed to help clients on a variety of legal issues.
