An initiative proposed in 2012 by European commissioner for justice Viviane Reding aiming to see women representing 30 percent of European boardrooms by the year 2015 has created controversy since it was published. Faegre Baker Daniels partner Melanie Wadsworth shared her opinion on the matter in an article appearing in Strategic Risk Magazine. "I hope these quotas don't become mandatory in Europe. There is a risk that we end up promoting women who are not ready," Wadsworth said. In the article, Wadsworth expressed support for more female executive leaders, but fears that the gender campaign may undermine the boardroom. "Diversity should not be about male or female, but about the correct balance of skills," Wadsworth said.
Wadsworth was quoted on the same topic in an article for the International Bar Association in October 2013 as well as World Finance in January 2014.
