Stacey Smiricky Gives Advice to Future Lawyers at Her Alma Mater

In a recent profile on its website, Northern Illinois University College of Law (NIU) featured alumna Stacey Smiricky of Faegre Baker Daniels, who gave advice to future attorneys and reminisced about her time at NIU.

"Take time to learn all aspects of the profession, including business operations and relationship development," Smiricky advised the law students. "With a better understanding of how the profession operates, you can be more successful. Also, it should be noted that doing a decent job is not the same thing as turning out excellent work product. Being careful and thorough are the most important things you can do to advance your career. You want a solid reputation based on excellent work product and a strong work ethic."

Smiricky named her colleagues as one of the most rewarding aspects of her work. "I have been lucky to work with some amazing people who have taught me how to be a better lawyer," she told NIU.

Smiricky cited a "faculty that cared about student success" as one of the things she liked most about NIU, saying she still seeks advice from some former professors.
