Off the heels of the election in which the commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, Kevin Lindsey, won two battles—the defeat of voter ID and the proposed amendment to ban same-sex marriage— 2012 was a busy year for the commissioner. Lindsey said the results of the amendment votes show that Minnesotans, when presented with all the information, can make an informed decision that respects the rights of all Minnesotans.
Chuck Knapp, in The Legal Ledger, added, "As commissioner of the MDHR, Kevin is perceived as a consensus builder who is not beholden to any particular group or issue but who is focused on implementing practical changes within the department to improve things for employers and employees alike." Knapp, who has known Lindsey for many years, noted that he "personifies the best of Minnesota political leadership."
