In an effort to boost waning interest and steadily declining overall Program savings, CMS has made several significant changes to the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). These changes are intended to promote the growth and long-term success of MSSP, align the MSSP with other CMS and CMMI payment models, and reward ACOs with large, underserved populations for engaging in activities that address health inequity among this population. The new Rule includes significant changes to MSSP participation options, quality reporting and performance requirements, financial methodology and calculation and programmatic design changes.
