2019 ASPPA Annual Conference

Overview

Los Angeles partner Heather Abrigo spoke at the 2019 American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) Conference held October 20−23, 2019, in Maryland. The annual conference brought together 1,500 retirement plan industry professionals to review new regulations, legislation, and services.

Heather spoke about the IRS Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System (EPCRS) during a two-part workshop titled “EPCRS & Ethics,” in which she reviewed common operational errors in addition to case studies with suggested corrections. Heather was joined by Jennifer Swets, a partner at DWS − The 401(k) Experts.

Heather also spoke at a workshop titled “Dealing with Divorce,” in which she outlined the complexities of dealing with participant domestic relations orders (DROs). She also discussed qualified DROs (QDROs) from the perspective of third-party administrators and emphasized the importance of having practices and procedures in place to process QDROs.

In addition, Heather served as an expert during the “Speaker’s Corner” and participated in the general session titled “Are you Smarter than a Pension Geek.”
