Before You File a Copyright Lawsuit

Overview

Washington, D.C., of counsel Janet Fries spoke at the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s first-ever Design Law Boot Camp on April 24, 2018, in Arlington, Va. The boot camp was targeted at new design law practitioners as well as experienced practitioners and covered design patents, copyrightable designs and trade dress.

Janet’s presentation, “Before You File a Copyright Lawsuit,” covered various steps in preparation for copyright litigation, including confirming ownership of the design and registering copyrights. Additionally, she offered tips on sending a demand letter, asserting DMCA violations and other claims, and hiring an expert.
