Overview
Insurance Practice partners Andy Lorin and Tim O'Driscoll, and White Collar Criminal Defense & Corporate Investigations partner Bill McSwain teamed up to speak at the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) Compliance & Legal Sections Annual Meeting on Wednesday, July 18, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Andy, Tim, and Bill presented to a full general session of in-house counsel and compliance professionals on "Whistleblowers: A Survey of Rules and Recent Activity." The presentation was comprised of a review of recent developments in whistleblower rules and litigation and what they mean for life insurers, including: qui tam lawsuits brought under state false claims acts for alleged failure to comply with unclaimed property laws; the SEC whistleblower program as recently modified by the Dodd-Frank Act; and the IRS whistleblower program.
The ACLI is a lobbying and trade group for the life insurance industry. The organization represents 300 insurance companies that account for 90 percent of the U.S. life insurance industry's total assets.
