Drinker Biddle Celebrates 25th MLK Day of Service, Volunteering Across the Country to Make a Meaningful Difference

Today, inspired by the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP lawyers, professionals and staff come together in offices across the country to effect positive change in local communities. More than 300 Drinker Biddle team members and guests will volunteer their time to 10 community service programs as part of the national MLK Day of Service.

The MLK Day of Service encourages all Americans to improve communities through volunteer activity. This year marks the 25th celebration of the annual service event since Congress designated the MLK holiday the first-ever national day of service.

“Drinker Biddle’s ongoing commitment to making an impact that matters is never more evident than when we come together to serve our communities,” said firm Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Andrew C. Kassner. “Effecting positive change in the communities in which we live and work is central to who we are as a firm. This year, we’re especially proud to be celebrating the 25th MLK Day of Service — a significant milestone that allows us to reflect on Dr. King’s transformative work and to demonstrate just how much our people value giving back in a meaningful way.”

Drinker Biddle volunteers expect to log more than 900 volunteer hours today — contributing their time, energy and enthusiasm to community service programs. This day of service is part of the firm’s year-round commitment to community-powered social impact.

Chief Diversity Officer Maria L.H. Lewis said, “In just under the 13 years he spent leading the modern American civil rights movement, Dr. King achieved more genuine progress toward racial equality in America than any other person during the previous 350 years combined. His campaigns against poverty and international conflict were similarly revolutionary and always rooted in grassroots engagement — and that is what this annual day of service is all about. Realization of Dr. King’s vision begins and ends with each of us individually reaching out to those who need assistance, and then leveraging that collective work to move the world. That kind of dedication to service is at the heart of our firm, and I look forward to joining my Drinker Biddle family across the country in service to good.”
