Nicholas Nelson Joins FaegreBD's Litigation & Advocacy Practice

Faegre Baker Daniels has added to its growing appellate advocacy practice with the hire of Nicholas Nelson, a Minnesota native who has spent his practice to date in Washington, D.C. focusing on high-profile litigation before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Until recently Nelson was an associate at Bancroft PLLC —the small D.C. firm that is home of former U.S. Solicitor General Paul Clement. In that capacity Nelson filed briefs in a number of cases before the Supreme Court and other courts, including the litigation over the validity of Arizona's immigration enforcement statute, the federal Defense of Marriage Act and South Carolina's voter-ID statute. In all, Nelson filed briefs in 11 cases before the Supreme Court during his two-plus years in D.C. – at both the ceriorari and merits stages and on behalf of petitioners, respondents and amici curiae.
Prior to his time in Washington, D.C., Nelson served as a juducial law clerk to Judge Thomas M. Hardiman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and to Judge Stephen J. Murphy, III of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
As an associate in FaegreBD's litigation and advocacy practice, Nelson will focus on analyzing, briefing and solving complex issues of legal doctrine at both the appeals and trial stages.
Nelson received his B.A. in Economics from St. Olaf College and his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School. He holds bar admissions in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Minnesota.
