Baker & Daniels to Relocate D.C. Headquarters in New LEED Gold Office Building

Baker & Daniels LLP announced today that it has committed to lease three floors at 1050 K St. NW, a new 11-story LEED™ Gold building under construction in downtown Washington, D.C. The firm will relocate its rapidly growing legal and consulting teams to the advanced facility in December 2008.

"We have developed substantial capabilities in the nation's capital that have fueled growth, and we expect to see continued expansion in the coming months and years," said Tom Froehle, Baker & Daniels' Chair and Chief Executive Partner. "Given our firmwide focus on advancing clean technologies and managing environmental impact, the 1050 K Street project made all the sense in the world for our teams."

Known internationally as the center of Washington's legal and lobbying community, the K Street Corridor will be anchored on its east end by the dramatic design of the new 1050 building. Baker & Daniels will occupy approximately 37,147 square feet on three floors within the building.

"With nearly 60 professionals, we have developed leading practices serving clients across the country and beyond from our Washington base," said Dave Zook, chair of B&D Consulting which is a division of Baker & Daniels. "We are excited to be moving into space that can support our growth and evolution for the next several years."

In the project, Baker & Daniels was represented by Gary Stein and Nicole Miller of Studley, Inc., a global commercial real estate advisory firm. The CB Richard Ellis team of Randy Harrell, Kevin Howard and Nathan Beach represented the owners of 1050 K Street NW, a joint venture of The Lenkin Company and The Tower Companies.

"The owners of this Hickok Cole-designed building have put their environmental commitment into practice, as demonstrated by many of the features in 1050 K Street," according to Randy Harrell. "The tenants will benefit significantly, with increased natural lighting, an extraordinary rooftop terrace and a green roof, as well as operational cost savings through improved mechanical systems and an air filtration system that will make the air inside the building cleaner than outside."

Baker & Daniels also adopted an environmentally friendly approach to relocating and expanding one of its Indiana offices last year. The firm used a number of green practices in the renovation of four floors of office space in downtown South Bend. The project included environmentally conscious materials, lighting, appliances, plumbing fixtures, stairs (as an alternative to the elevator) and recycling.
