Philip S. Garon and Michael A. Stanchfield Receive Burton Award for Legal Writing

Philip S. Garon and Michael A. Stanchfield, partners in Faegre & Benson LLP's corporate practice, received a 2007 national award for legal writing from the Burton Awards for Legal Achievement. The awards ceremony will be held June 4 at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

This marks the seventh consecutive year Faegre & Benson has received a Burton Award and the second time Phil and Mike have received this distinction for exceptional and leading-edge legal writing. The 2007 award recognizes "Challenging Delaware's Desirability as a Haven for Incorporation," an article Phil and Mike co-authored with John H. Matheson, the Melvin C. Steen and Corporate Donors Professor of Law at the University of Minnesota Law School. The article appeared in the William Mitchell Law Review, Vol. 32, No. 2, 2006.

Phil, the former chairman of Faegre & Benson, represents corporate clients in a wide range of corporate matters, including public and private mergers and acquisitions, private financings and hostile takeover defense. He and John co-authored the seminal Minnesota Corporation Law and Practice, 2nd ed., published by Thomson West in 2004.

Mike practices in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, takeover preparedness, venture capital financings and general corporate counseling. He is a frequent author and speaker on topics related to mergers and acquisitions and other corporate matters.

The Burton Awards for Legal Achievement is a national program run in association with the Library of Congress and its Law Library.
