Overview

Douglas Swill is a nationally recognized health care attorney who advises on strategic transactions and affiliations, enabling clients to realize their clinical and business goals. During his 30-year career, Doug has led innovative and multimillion-dollar corporate combinations for health systems, hospitals, medical groups and other health care providers. In addition to his transactional work, Doug is valued for his counsel on emerging and existing regulatory and corporate governance issues in the health care industry.

Transaction Counsel

Doug facilitates large and complex transactions involving public, publicly traded, private and faith-based providers as well as private equity companies. As part of his merger and acquisitions and joint venture work, Doug advised on the creation of one of the country’s largest nonprofit health systems and one of New Jersey’s largest integrated health networks. He also is a leader in helping establish novel medical laboratory management arrangements for clients and advised on the world’s first engineering-based college of medicine.

Health Systems, Hospitals and Physicians

Doug represents hospital systems in negotiations to buy and sell physician practices, including advising on corporate structuring for physician integration and compensation. He is experienced in organizing and implementing integrated physician groups, establishing governance structures, consolidating specialty physician groups and creating physician management organizations.

Prior to joining the firm in 1993, he was an assistant state's attorney in Chicago and practiced in the Office of the State’s Attorney’s federal litigation and hospitals departments. In that capacity, Doug represented Cook County Hospital in general counsel matters and Cook County officials in federal litigation matters that included oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
