Overview

Monika Sehic is a trial lawyer who advocates for clients at every stage of a threatened or actual dispute. She takes a pragmatic and personal approach to every client engagement, always seeking to determine how a client’s goals can best be realized in and out of the courtroom. Monika represents clients in appellate matters, business torts, insurance litigation and regulatory matters, securities and financial services disputes, white collar defense, injunctive relief proceedings, and government investigations.

Insurance

Monika has a strong record representing insurance clients in the courtroom, working with regulatory authorities, and assessing and advising on how changes in the insurance industry impact a client’s business. Whether she is litigating tort claims or developing solutions to emerging industry-specific issues, Monika identifies risks and approaches problems with clients’ needs and goals in mind.

Securities and Financial Services

Monika defends broker-dealers and investment advisers against both investor and industry disputes relating to suitability, fiduciary duties, negligent supervision, fraud, negligence, churning, breach of contract, defamation, and tortious interference. She also helps clients respond to regulatory and compliance issues before the SEC, FINRA and state regulatory authorities.

White Collar Defense and Government Investigations

Monika’s passion for oral advocacy in the courtroom began in law school, where she prosecuted felonies and other indictable crimes as a student-attorney. Since joining Faegre Drinker, Monika has used that background to help clients navigate disputes and government interactions. In white collar cases, Monika identifies issues that may arise in the industries clients operate in, such as financial fraud, money laundering, insurance fraud, health care fraud, cybercrime, and False Claims Act allegations. Monika approaches internal investigations, white collar criminal cases and enforcement actions with an understanding of the impact these matters can have on a client’s business — and the discretion to ensure client interests are always protected.

Pro Bono

Having benefited from the goodwill and support of others early in life, when she came to the U.S. as a Croatian refugee, Monika knows firsthand that any contribution to the well-being of another person can have a significant impact. For that reason, pro bono is a core part of her legal work. She has worked to combat partisan gerrymandering, help clients gain permanent U.S. resident status, advocate against incentivized, jail-house informant testimony (in an amicus brief), and defend individuals in response to state and federal criminal charges.
