Trusts and Estates
Rubeena represents clients in the preparation of wills, various trusts and trusts for tax planning purposes, which include grantor retained annuity trusts, spousal lifetime access trusts, insurance trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, qualified domestic trusts and supplemental needs trusts. She has represented New Jersey clients to obtain a favorable income tax letter ruling from New York state that ownership of private residential club would not be considered “permanent place of abode” for NY statutes resident purposes. She also litigates estate and trust disputes, including termination of trusts, in New Jersey Courts, Probate Division.
She advises fiduciaries on the administration of estates and trusts, including reviewing and/or preparing required documents for probate and administration proceedings; preparing gift and estate tax returns; advising and negotiating audits with the IRS regarding tax issues; reviewing and/or preparing informal and formal accountings; and preparing receipts and releases for distribution of the estates and trusts.
Rubeena also represents nonprofit organizations, including private foundations and public charities, on the formation of nonprofit entities and preparation of federal applications for recognition of tax-exempt status, including state charitable registration filings. She represented Doris Wilderness Foundation, a 7200-acre preserve in central Belize established to protect old-growth neotropical forest and the flora, in securing a favorable IRS tax exemption determination letter.
Rubeena also assists clients with guardianship proceedings.
