Overview

Katie Gray uses her substantial litigation experience to help clients navigate complex real estate disputes. She focuses on condemnation cases, litigation involving special district financing arrangements and other real estate-related matters.

Eminent Domain

Katie has practiced as an eminent domain attorney since the beginning of her career. She guides landowners through all stages of the condemnation process, from the notice of intent to negotiations and, when necessary, condemnation litigation. She assists clients in understanding their constitutional rights when property is being taken, starting with answering the first questions that arise when a landowner receives a notice of intent to acquire. Because she has worked extensively with appraisers, surveyors, land planners and engineers, Katie can also help clients find the technical professionals needed to arrive at a fair valuation of their property. Katie has helped clients achieve favorable outcomes in condemnation trials to juries and commissioners.

Katie also assists condemning entities with their projects, from the planning phase through property acquisition. As a condemnation lawyer who represents both condemnors and property owners, she has unique insights into the process and the objectives of both parties to a condemnation case.

Eminent Domain Work in Colorado and Nationwide

Geographically, Katie’s condemnation work has spanned jurisdictions throughout Colorado and nationwide. Within Colorado, Katie has handled numerous eminent domain matters arising in the City and County of Denver, the City of Boulder, the City of Glenwood Springs, the City of Greeley, Adams County, Larimer County and Weld County. Together with local counsel and other members of the Faegre Drinker team, Katie has also represented clients on eminent domain matters in Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, North Carolina and Tennessee.
